Chinese Ghost Festival

Many believe during this period of the month, the gates of the Netherworld open and allow spirits to roam freely. It is also during this period of the month that people return home early. During the 1st and 15th of the month, Chinese burn offerings to the spirits - This has been part of our traditions.

Today was no exception. I'll be heading to a 7th month dinner with my family, followed by a trip to the cemetery. This is the first time I'm joining them, and I hope everything goes fine. Most importantly, my mom said we're not allowed to address each other by name lest the spirit follow us home.

P/S: It's been said that this year's Ghost Festival is the most unlucky one.

Since young, my family organises such event, and trust me, it's hard work. I have friends telling me how fun it is to attend the dinner. Yes, attending is fun, with the biddings of each particular item. But it's never fun tidying up.

Small scale 7th month dinner.

We used to organise big scale event, about 100 tables during the dinner, but not anymore. It's down to approximately 30-40 tables now, and it's so much easier to handle.

Nevertheless, I'm glad everything's over now. Probably today's the last night I'll be attending 7th month dinner and say 'bye' to Chinese Ghost Festival. How time flies..

P/S: Who's heading down to IT Fair tomorrow?
